SMS empfangen und zahlen?
Zwei Seiten einer Medaille: in den USA bezahlt man, anders als hier, für den Empfang einer SMS. Auf der positiven Seite ermöglicht das so tolle Services wie Twitter, allerdings darf man dann auch für Spam-SMS bezahlen. Dann lieber so wie wir’s haben.
Mail and the N70
I’m still on my Nokia N70 which I got early last year. It’s not a bad phone, but there are a few things that do bother me. One, my sideburns get stuck between the buttons. Two, whatever popmail account I set up, it checks regularly at intervals…for starters. Then it just stops doing that. No idea why. Finally, it’s UMTS, for which I’ve got a nice data package from e-plus. Thing is, either there’s zero coverage or the N70 isn’t too fond of 3G. And when there is a signal where I hook up, it invariably starts fading away.
There’s no such thing as a perfect phone.
Mobile who?
A friend of mine ordered a new SIM card, since the one he was using was from dinosaur days. Somehow, the telco screwed up and my friend ended up without a mobile for at least a week. What a horrible thought.
Mobile Monday Munich
Mobile Monday Munich was fun, mostly for the networking part of things. I’m still not sure that a 20 minute presentation is the right format, the takeaway is no more than at a pechakucha-type event, also known as slamming. Particularly if the slides are chock-packed with bullet points and text.
Networking was fun, though, and in particular the “get up and exchange five cards with people you’ve never met before”. In fact, it worked so well that MC Russell was having the biggest trouble herding people back to their seats.
I was pleased to be able to pop the obvious question to Teppo Paavola of Nokia before the same question was asked in the finishing q&as; what did he think of the iPhone? In short, he thought the goals set by Apple were quite ambitious, but that the concept perhaps might be a milestone in the mobile industry, or perhaps not, in particular due to the price.

(Anfangs)Anatomie eines Gesprächs
Heute im Puck mit Russell getroffen um ein wenig Mobile zu besprechen. Ich, weil es mich interessiert (und ich mal beruflich damit zu tun hatte), er, weil er es liebt und auch noch davon lebt :)
Angefangen hat das Gespräch natürlich mit dem iPhone, über den wir beide etwas geschrieben hatten (hier, dort). Ohne wieder ins Detail zu gehen, wir haben beide ein Fragezeichen über die Kratzfestigkeit gesetzt und über das fehlende UMTS. Interessant auch seine Aussage, er würde sicher eines kaufen, aber ein wenig später. Lass die ersten, wilden Kunden Geräte mit Kinderkrankheiten kaufen. Kaufe ein halbes Jahr später ein solides Gerät.
Dann haben wir unsere Handys auf den Tisch: sein e61 und mein N70. Er ganz zufrieden, obwohl keine Kamera, ich unzufrieden weil grosses Telefon mit kleinen Knöpfen und total zerkratzt.
