Testing Ecto
I used to work with ecto a while ago, and I’ve downloaded it again, just to test. Looks promising as I definitely prefer to work offline. Would be a huge bonus to work like this while on the road.
Bad News
This is where it is getting a bit complicated. I was planning on getting myself a Flip Mino HD in the States, to use as Diary video recorder. Sadly, it looks like my trusty G4 11″ Powerbook can’t handle HD, the specs are simply not up to date.
The solution this time round will be to shoot in 4:3, which should be OK for the purpose, but in terms of travelling video workstation, it doesn’t cut the mustard. Too bad really.
Indy diary 1: Off to FDIC again
I’m not unpleasantly surprised by the fact that I am able to attend FDIC again this year, part of my job will be to help someone out with their English, but a lot will be reporting again, including attending a HOT (hands on training) called Fire Investigation. This task is performed by the police here in Germany, so I’m really looking forward to that.
So far organisation has been a bit tedious, as I tried to squeeze in a visit to a friend with the Edmonton FD, which is a mere 2,000km beyond Chicago. Turns out it was too expensive, particularly for two-day visit, so I hope to be able to catch up on this at a later stage.
Still, it’s quite complex, as I have to organise for two, I’m, flying in a day earlier to attend HOT as well as classroom sessions on Wednesday. Then it’s the exhibition Thursday thru Saturday, perhaps there’ll be time Saturday afternoon to visit a place of interest, something I wasn’t able to do last year. So far, flights are booked, same again with LH to Charlotte, a four-and-a-half hour stayover and then on to Indy. Tomorrow will be hotel and car rental, following which we should be all set.
When all that is done; I’ll be able to think about gear. More to follow
Mankind Stupid
Sometimes, it’s plain better to be clever and let go. Here’s a prime example of utter stubborness and stupidity: almost everyone coming from this direction take a shortcut across this piece of lawn. The solution? Perhaps a few cobblestones?
Instead, they put up criss-cross some totally ugly tape, because yeah, we want to keep it pretty. This has been going on for months. Come on!
